Tearing-Off Exhibition Catalogue
Commissioned by Goethe-Institut Bulgaria, we created an innovative catalogue that presents an exhibition from 2018 in an interactive format. Designed with machine-sewn pages and bold colours, it encourages readers to tear or cut open the spreads to reveal exhibition photographs, blending functionality with creativity.
In 2018, Goethe-Institut Bulgaria tasked us with creating a custom catalogue for one of their exhibition, which featured diverse artworks. Our challenge was to develop a design that was as interactive as it was visually striking. The result is a 10-page catalogue that invites readers to engage physically with the book, either by cutting or tearing open each spread to reveal hidden photographs of the artwork.
We used contrasting colours—black-and-white for the outer pages and a bold Pantone orange for the inner pages—to emphasise the dramatic reveal. Each spread is machine-sewn, adding a tactile dimension that connects the viewer to the exhibited works in a personal way. Balancing curatorial texts with vivid visuals, the catalogue not only serves as a functional exhibition guide but also as a collectable piece of art in itself. The final product successfully blended innovation with elegance, offering a memorable experience for all who engaged with it.
