Houben Tcherkelov Catalogue
Commissioned by the Museum of Humor and Satire in Gabrovo, we designed the "Why So Serious?" catalogue, featuring the works of New York-based Bulgarian artist Houben Tcherkelov. The dual-language book delves into Tcherkelov’s exploration of art, culture, and currency, with custom design elements like gold Pantone and banknote textures to bring his vision to life.
Our collaboration with the Museum of Humor and Satire involved designing a unique dual-language catalogue for Houben Tcherkelov’s "Why So Serious?" exhibition. The catalogue highlights paintings from Tcherkelov’s 2020 show, offering an in-depth look at his provocative themes surrounding art, money, and trust. The design incorporated gold Pantone colours and banknote textures to reflect the artist's focus on currency as a cultural concept. A key challenge was creating a design that would both captivate and educate audiences about contemporary Bulgarian art while complementing Tcherkelov’s complex philosophy.
